So the story over the weekend was about how model/fashion designer Maggie Wilson-Consunji was rubbed the wrong way in an incident at the exclusive Balesin Island Club where she discovered the "Yaya's Meal". Just like the general public, I sympathize with Maggie. But, I don't want to elaborate on the Yaya's meal incident. One can read that elsewhere on the internet. Besides, I get reminded of the Torre de Manila monstrosity behind the Rizal monument at Luneta by mere word association.
So if it's discrimination we're talking about, nothing rises to the top than what I stumbled upon. Yaya's meal is nothing. In this quick picture, one can see four different doors to personal relief. The doors are, Male Toilet, Male Executive Toilet, Female Executive Toilet, and Female Toilet. So here we are, this is a four way discrimination which sets the Yaya's meal issue to the corner.
No, this picture of four CR doors does not belittle people by what I see as, "down-labeling" as in the Yaya meal incident. But it does have the unnecessary pleasure of "up-labeling" the idiots in management who create such controversies as this. It simply states in a not so subtle way, "We executives piss in a different manner than the rest of you from the rank and file".
Baahh, maybe I give too much meaning to simple signs. I could just be overreacting. Then again, reader, what do you think?

More On Boudoir Portraiture
In the recent post about Boudoir Photography, Pinay Cougar preferred the lens of the late Toch Arellano for such a project. Having scoured the blogosphere for a photographer to take on the task, methinks that there's a hands-down winner. Her name is Leah A. Valle. She is also known as the 13thwitch.
One just has to view her portfolio to see that this photographer from Davao would do well to immortalize those bedroom poses of Pinay Cougars.
All praises for the 13thwitch, Leah Valle! The only setback now is that her studio is in Davao. Oh well, might as well sched a trip to Davao one of these days.

Cougars go cruising for cubs
First published in The New Paper | Tue, Dec 15 2009
Overwhelming response to first trip for older women and younger men.
THREE days ago, the first cruise for cougars set sail.
But if you think we are referring to mountain lions, you are mistaken – these cougars are women.
Click here to find out more!
Last Friday, the cruise ship Elation made history by hosting the world’s first International Cougar Cruise, reported CNN.
Elation spokesman Rich Gosse, who came up with the concept, said: “A cougar is generally known as a woman over 40 who likes to date younger men, but theoretically any woman who dates younger men is a cougar.”
All 300 places on the ship, which sailed from San Diego, California, to Ensenada, Mexico, for a three-night cruise, were taken up and there was even a waiting list.
Ms Ann Thomas, owner of the Singles Travel Company who organised the cruise, told CNN: “I’ve never seen a response quite like this.”
She said she was hesitant to sign on to the idea at first but now is glad that she did.
“We have people flying in from Italy and Denmark. My associates have been booking from France, Canada. It’s fascinating.”
She added: “And starting at US$125 (S$174) per ticket, it’s a great price. I’ve had to hire two more people part-time just to pick up the phones.”
The ship has three swimming pools, a seven-deck-high atrium, bar and grill, a Moroccan-inspired Casablanca Casino and a lounge that features stage shows.
After making port in Ensenada, there are extracurricular activities like horse-riding, all-terrain vehicles rides and other outdoor activities.
Ms Thomas said: “There are at least four or five options a day for people to get together on the cruise. We’re doing lots of activities; dancing, dining, jacuzzi parties, two-hour karaoke sessions.”
Mr Gosse, who has been hosting singles events for more than 30 years, got the idea for the cougar cruise after hosting a cougar convention in Palo Alto, California.
He told USA Today: “We had to turn away hundreds of people. Then we did one (cougar convention) in Beverly Hills and had a massive crowd down there. So I thought, maybe we should do a cougar cruise.
“I didn’t think anyone would want to go. Needless to say, the phone is ringing off the hook.”
More cubs
But plans for future cruises have run into an iceberg of sorts – too many cubs and not enough cougars.
Mr Gosse defined a “cub” as someone in his 20s or early 30s who likes to date older women.
He said: “The basic problem is, we have too many cubs. We usually have too many women and not enough guys, but there’s been a paradigm shift in recent years.
“So now, the cubs are more excited about it than the cougars.”
He said that in the past, it was socially acceptable for older men to date younger women.
But, he said, celebrities like 31-year-old Ashton Kutcher (the husband of actress Demi Moore, 47) and 34-year-old baseball player Alex Rodriguez (who is rumoured to have dated pop star Madonna, 51) have led to a new generation of younger men on the prowl for more experienced partners.
There is now also a US sitcom called Cougar Town, which glamorises the sexual escapades of a divorcee in her 40s in search of self-discovery by dating younger men.
According to the US Census Bureau, there are 118 single men for every 100 single women in their 20s in the country.
Ms Thomas said this skewed profile was because young women were dating older guys. “If you look at the demographics, the only logical way for people to get their needs met is for younger men to date older women.”

Is a Budoir Photo Session For You?
One of the things which a Cougar must come to grips with is the fact that her body may not be in the best of shape forever. Try as she might, the cougar is battling against age and gravity. So with this, it comes as no surprise that more cougars are trying what may be their stab at being the model they've always wanted to be.
Enter the world of Budoir Portraiture.
Jean Garcia did it for FHM, and so did Dina Bonnevie. While you may not really land the pages of FHM, Maxim, Uno, or Rogue, bear in mind that a budoir portrait session will be the closest to that same experience.
And why should a cougar have a budoir photo session?
Well, besides giving you an opportunity to be naked in a situation where you would normally be clothed, being photographed naked will yield a souvenir that you can use as inspiration. Even so, it should be as flattering as possible: The idea is to provide a sense of pride and possibility. As a tip, stick to black and white--it’s less distracting than color, and you’ll see fewer irregularities in skin tone--and use soft, diffused light to soften any lumps, bumps, or other imperfections on your skin.
So now that I've mentioned black and white, I am now reminded of what it was like in high school to pose before Toch Arellano. Girl, Toch was the best!
If Toch were still alive today, I'd be sure he'd raise his eyebrows in thinking that the high school seniors of the Bagets era would make a beeline to his studio in Eisenhower St. to have budoir sessions.
In the next post, we'll tell you how to handle yourself in a budoir session.
Are you ready to pose for a sexy photo session? Join us in our Facebook Discussion

Why Cougar Cruises Proved Too Hot for Carnival
Why Cougar Cruises Proved Too Hot for Carnival

The Carnival Elation departs the Port of San Diego
Andy Newman / Carnival Cruise Lines / AP
When cougars gather for a convention in Las Vegas next week, they'll have a lot on their vigorous plates. There's the keynote address — "Younger Men/Older Women: The Ideal Combination" — not to mention voting for Miss Cougar Las Vegas. But an equally weighty topic is likely to create as much buzz among these ladies: Carnival Cruise Line's decision not to book anymore cougar-themed groups for cruises.
If you didn't even know there was such a thing as cougar cruises, don't worry, because the first was last month, a three-day voyage on the Carnival Elation between San Diego and Ensenada, Mexico. More are planned this year for this cohort of older women who prefer younger men ("cubs") — the members of a feminist movement that's now being celebrated on network sitcoms Cougartown and Accidentally on Purpose. (See the top 10 buzzwords of 2009.)
So why would Carnival — which not so long ago drew the wrath of the Southern Baptist Convention for sponsoring gay cruises — suddenly back away from cougar-and-cub cruises? The Miami-based cruise company, one of the world's largest, concedes that the group's 300 or so cruisers, whose wildest event was your typical cruise-ship hot-tub party, weren't particularly loud partyers or a disturbance to other passengers. But Carnival wouldn't discuss the new ban, simply sending an e-mail statement that the line had "made the decision not to allow any future groups to be booked and marketed on our ships under this theme. It was a business decision."
Travel experts say the decision reflects Carnival's strategy to market itself as a more wholesome, "family fun" cruise line and avoid the image of a floating girls-gone-wild video. Rich Gosse, spokesman for the California-based Singles Travel Company and Society of Single Professionals, which arranged the first International Cougar Cruise, says he understands the pressure Carnival feels to build that customer base in the current economy. "They've got to do what they've got to do to survive," says Gosse, "and we're grateful they gave us the chance to start this." (See TIME's photo-essay "The Allure of the Oasis Cruise Ship.")
Cougars may have momentum these days, but their relatively small cruise-passenger numbers thus far may have cost them the Carnival business. Unlike other groups like the gay and lesbian communities, which fully charter ships for themselves on themed cruises, the cougars have less leverage because they're just one group among many passengers onboard. Says Carolyn Spencer Brown, editor in chief of the website Cruise Critic: "In a contained environment like a cruise ship, if other passengers find anything potentially offensive about your group's theme, it can be a problem. That's why it's better to take the whole ship if you can."
But Gosse and others worry that Carnival's cougar kibosh could reinforce a societal double standard: that it's O.K. for older men to have nubile trophy gals on their arms, but we should cover our kids' eyes lest they see a 50-something woman kissing a young Adonis. He says that broader social acceptance is particularly important for cougars and other middle-aged single women, who "are being left out in the cold" by middle-aged men's penchant for younger women. (See 50 essential travel tips.)
The current Miss Cougar America, 42-year-old single mother and Silicon Valley business consultant Gloria Navarro, who was on last month's cruise, agrees. "I'm not really worried that we're being discriminated against, because this is Carnival's marketing direction," says Navarro. "But unfortunately this could be taken the wrong way by people who don't quite grasp the fact that the day of the gold digger is over and women like me have finally come into their own." As for speculation that cougars somehow didn't fit the cruise line's family focus, she adds, "I'd bet that among the wholesome Carnival passenger families, a lot of husbands are 10 or 20 years older than the wives."
Cougars are largely an affluent, professional women's group, and they are not easily thrown overboard. They have already found other lines that aren't as squeamish about May-December cruise groups. The next cougar-and-cub voyage is slated for May, a weeklong voyage from Los Angeles to the Mexican Riviera on Royal Caribbean. Another is scheduled between Miami and the Bahamas next December on Norwegian Cruise Lines, and a cruise for Australian cougars is planned as well. Women like Navarro note that being able to market cruises for one's particular crowd is a way in this day and age "to show that you're being brought into the mainstream a little more."
